The following books are now out of print. These electronic copies were obtained legitimately from the authors. You may print your own copies, but since they are fairly large we would prefer you did not do this on our printers. (If you like, we could probably arrange for a bulk printing at close to cost.)

• The Implementation of Functional Programming Languages, Simon L. Peyton Jones, 1987. Originally published by Prentice Hall, now out of print. 458 pages, 42 MB PDF. (The PDF was made by scanning a printed copy, hence its size.)
• Implementing Functional Languages: a tutorial, Simon L. Peyton Jones and David R. Lester; 2000. 296 pages, 0.9 MB PDF. (This PDF was made directly from TeX sources.)
• pjlester-1.11.tar.Z, the TeX and Miranda source code for the Peyton Jones and Lester book.

I found the 1987 book very helpful. However the 2000 book was specially designed to be suitable for a course at this level, and the 1987 book wasn't. The authors think you don't need both; I think you do. But it is probably a good idea to read the more recent book first.
