Event-based middleware allows interacting software systems to be decoupled from each other. This decoupling facilitates the overall distributed software system reconfiguring itself non-disruptively to balance system load, or to work around system failures. This type of reconfiguration support is engineered into most event-based middleware.
Going beyond this functionality, with an eye to secure data management within cloud computing, new needs for reconfiguration are emerging that seem also to be served well by event based systems.
This talk introduces our work into policy-driven reconfiguration, including discussion of the open-source, event-based middleware platform on which we have been doing our experiments.
