Title:

NZ IoT : a view of current commercialisation, research and development - current applications in utilities, farming and in the care of lone workers

Location:

Owheo G34 - 1:00 pm, Friday 27 July

Abstract:

SenSys and LiNC, New Zealand engineering Companies with a background in transducer/sensor development and RF chose LoRaWAN and micro-power edge computing in 2015 to process and communicate alerts and integrated measurements over long distances within micro-power budgets. Having developed and tested an architecture that seamlessly uses 3 and sometimes 4 wireless (RF) technologies and with several existing products now providing commercially viable end-user solutions, SenSys and LiNC are covering NZ with a public LoRaWAN network and delivering solutions to utilities, farming and lifting health & safety practice for lone workers. New research opportunities abound and take on new levels of impact when run in concert with product and manufacturing development strengths. The global market beckons for superbly well-developed products with a distinguishing research base.

Bio:

Warwick Jones launched his electrical engineering career at three years of age investigating a live power socket with wires and a screwdriver. Undeterred, his growing years were immersed in electronics and he became a founding shareholder of SenSys in his teens. After graduate training he managed design and development of process control systems and sensors and their manufacture. His background also includes technology consultancy to NZ and international governments.

An innovator by nature, Warwick guides the SenSys and LiNC teams of designers, engineers and developers to create and bring to markets unique and useful products. The products combine modern sensing and communication technologies to mimic human intelligence and provide useful information to managers and carers of farms, people, assets, utilities and facilities, enabling better care and improved decision-making.
