Abstract:
Advances in information science have been eagerly awaited by the
various specialised agencies of the United Nations. It was early recognised
that this is just the kind of tool needed to engender the unity in
diversity
needed for a development strategy that brings together the contributions
of
all cultures and societies. Despite the promise, the results have been
mixed. Dr. Riddell will discuss some of the unique IT challenges in
United
Nations work.
Dr Riddell is a William Evans Visiting Fellow to the University of Otago,
in
particular, the Departments of Surveying and Information Science.
