Title: Studies of novice programmers, implications for teaching and
learning
In this talk I will review the (large!) literature on
novice programmers, including some brief results from our own studies
of COMP 103. I will summarise some implications for teachers, propose
a simple framework that organises many of the factors involved in
programming, and ask the audience for thoughts on what any of this
might mean for COMP 103.
