Jim was a postman for 10 years before taking up a career in archaeology, completing a thesis on seasonal dating of Chione stutchburyi in 1995. He worked as Senior Research Assistant in a programme of research on prehistoric fishing in New Zealand and the Chatham Islands. Jim is a keen scuba diver, and loves swimming. He is now carrying out research for his PhD at Otago University
