About the group
The Systems Research Group (SRG) is an enthusiastic group of academics at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. Our aim is to explore many aspects of parallel and distributed computing, computer networks, and green computing.
We study such diverse areas as wireless sensor networks, multicore computing, distributed event-based systems, e-Research, ad-hoc and mesh networks, cyber-physical systems, parallel and distributed algorithms, transactional memory, parallel programming environments, energy saving in parallel/distributed systems, embedded systems, mobility management and QoS in mobile networks, and target localization. We incorporate skills drawn from many areas of computer science including operating systems, computer architectures, systems analysis, data communications, network protocols, and system modeling and simulation.

PhD Scholarships are available at the University of Otago!
Applications are sought for PhD positions in the aforementioned areas, especially on topics like wireless sensor networks, distributed event-based systems, parallel computing, body sensor networks, green computing, and real-time scheduling on multi-core platforms, at the Department of Computer Science in the University of Otago, New Zealand's top-ranked university for research quality. The PhD work is
to be carried out under the supervision of Haibo Zhang, David Eyers, and Zhiyi Huang.
To be considered for admission to the Computer Science department's PhD programme, applicants must have completed an MSc/Honors degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a relevant subject. The MSc/Honors degree must have a research project worth at least 25% of a full-time load in their final year.
To be considered for a PhD scholarship, applicants must have
(1) an 'A' average or better in their MSc/Honors study,
(2) strong analytical/experimental skills,
(3) solid background in relevant areas,
(4) good communication skills in English (both oral and written)
(5) previous research experience in relevant areas is a plus.
Otago's PhD scholarships are open to qualified students from any country, and cover both course fees and living expenses.
