There are four routes to Master's in computer science: from a Bachelor's degree, from a DipGrad, from a PGDip, or from an Honours degree in computer science.
From a Bachelor's or DipGrad, you need an average grade of B or better in the 300-level COSC papers for admission to the two year Master's programme (either MSc or MA, depending on your Bachelor's degree).
From a PGDip or Honours degree in computer science, you may apply for admission directly to the second (thesis) year of Master's, provided that the COSC480 research project was included in your PGDip.
The first year of the two-year Master's is roughly identical to the PGDip and involves the COSC480 research project plus five 400-level COSC papers, in total worth 126 points. Note that PGDip students who wish to be eligible to continue with Master's study must include COSC480 in their PGDip, and should aim at an average grade of at least B in the PGdip year. The second year of Master's is devoted to research and writing a thesis.
The special application forms needed for Master's may be obtained by emailing the University Information Centre.
Intending Master's students, and especially those seeking direct entry to the thesis year, should begin by consulting the adviser of studies.
