The following books are not required, but are useful as references:

• The C Programming Language by Kernighan and Ritchie (Often called K & R, this classic should be read by every C programmer.)
• The Unix Programming Environment by Kernighan and Pike

Copies of these books are available for you to use when in the lab.

• Ohio State University has a rather good introduction to Unix.
• If you liked the JAVA API, there are many similar pages for the C library such as the C Library Reference Guide or C/C++ Reference pages.
• The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX by Tobias Oetiker is helpful for learning about LaTeX.
